Maund, mann and kg: scrap weight units explained

Rates are quoted per kg, per maund, per mann or per ton. How to convert them so you compare the same thing.

Scrap rates in Pakistan are quoted in different units, which makes them hard to compare. Before you compare two prices, convert them to rupees per kilogram.

The common units

UnitKilogramsWhere you see it
Kilogram (kg)1Most rate lists, and Scrap Exchange
Maund (mann), modern40Many markets and dealers
Mann, traditionalabout 37.3Some broker rates in old markets
Ton (metric tonne)1,000Mills, wholesale and import prices

How to convert

  • Per maund (40 kg) to per kg: divide by 40. Rs 4,000 per maund is Rs 100 per kg.
  • Per ton to per kg: divide by 1,000. Rs 150,000 per ton is Rs 150 per kg.
  • If a broker's mann is 37.3 kg, divide by 37.3 instead.
