Privacy policy

• Account details: your name, email address, password (stored scrambled, never in plain text) and whether you buy, sell or both.
• Phone number: if you add one, so buyers and sellers can trust you and we can send you a code to check it.
• Location: the area or city you enter, and the pickup location on your listings, so people nearby can find your scrap.
• Photos: your profile photo, listing photos, photos you scan for a price estimate, and photos taken at a pickup or added to a dispute.
• Chat: messages, photos and voice notes you send about an offer.
• Deals: offers, pickups, completed deals, reviews and disputes.
• Devices: which phone or browser is signed in, the app version and when it was last used, so you can see and sign out your devices.

• To run the marketplace: show listings, send offers, arrange pickups and keep a record of each deal.
• To keep people safe: verify emails and phone numbers, show trust badges, and let moderators look into reports and disputes.
• To estimate prices from your photos and show market prices.
• To send you messages you asked for, such as sign-in codes, pickup reminders and, if you turn it on, our newsletter.

Other members see your name, photo, area, listings, reviews and badges. Your email and phone number are only shown on your profile if you turn that on in Profile settings. You can also make your profile private.

The person you are dealing with sees your chat messages and the pickup details. Dispute photos are only seen by the two people in the deal and our moderators.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers. We only share it with services that help us run Scrap Exchange (such as sending emails and text messages), or when the law requires it.

Go to Settings, Privacy and data. There you can download everything we hold about you as a file, ask us to delete your data, or ask us to delete your account. You can see the status of each request and cancel it while it is waiting.

We handle deletion requests within 30 days. Records of completed deals are kept, because the other person in each deal needs them too, and we may keep some records the law asks us to keep.

Use a password you don't use anywhere else. You can see every phone and browser signed in to your account, and sign any of them out, in Account status and devices. Our team will never ask for your password or a code we send you.
