Grades

What decides the price of iron and steel scrap

  • Heavy melting scrap

    Thick pieces: beams, gates, machinery parts. The usual top rate for loha.

  • Light scrap

    Thin sheet, tin and household items. Priced lower than heavy pieces.

  • Cast iron

    Engine blocks, old radiators, pipes. Brittle and priced on its own.

  • Stainless steel

    Not magnetic or only weakly. Usually priced well above ordinary iron.

Tips for a better price

  • A magnet sticks firmly to iron and ordinary steel. Keep anything it does not stick to aside: it may be worth more.
  • Cut very large items to a size that fits a pickup vehicle, or say so in your listing.
  • Ask for the weight on a proper scale (kanda). On a pickup, the buyer records it with a photo.
