Questions and answers

Everything people ask us about selling and buying scrap, rates, pickups and payment.

The basics

What is Scrap Exchange?
An online marketplace for scrap in Pakistan. Sellers get a price estimate from a photo and offers from kabarias, dealers and recyclers; buyers find scrap near them. Deals are agreed in the chat and completed at a pickup.
Does Scrap Exchange cost anything?
No. Creating an account, listing scrap, making offers and using the app are free.
Do you buy scrap yourselves?
No. Scrap Exchange connects buyers and sellers. Buyers pay sellers directly and we never hold your money.
Which cities do you cover?
Anyone in Pakistan can list scrap and get offers. Buyers are most active in Islamabad and Rawalpindi today, and we publish daily rates for seven cities.
Is there an app to sell purana saman in Pakistan?
Yes, Scrap Exchange. Take a photo, see the price, get offers and sell from home. It is free on Android and on the web.

Rates and prices

Where do your scrap rates come from?
From completed deals on Scrap Exchange (when there are at least three), otherwise from current asking prices, otherwise from a guide range. Every rate says which. See how we calculate rates.
Why do scrap rates change every day?
Metal prices follow international prices, the rupee to dollar rate and local demand from mills and recyclers. Read why scrap rates change.
How accurate is the photo price estimate?
It recognises common materials and uses today's local rates, so it is a good starting point. The final price depends on the grade and the weight on the day, and is what you agree with the buyer.
Why is an offer different from the estimate?
Buyers look at things a photo can't show well: how clean the scrap is, its exact grade and the real weight. Several offers show what the market will pay today.
1 maund kitne kg ka hota hai?
Aam taur par 40 kg. Kuch purani mandiyon mein mann taqreeban 37.3 kg ka bhi hota hai. Dekhein: maund, mann aur kg.

Selling

How do I sell scrap online?
Take a photo in the app or web app, check the estimate, publish your listing and compare offers. The buyer comes to you, weighs with you and pays you. See how it works.
How many photos can I add?
Up to 12 photos per listing. The first is the main photo buyers see.
Is there a minimum quantity?
No minimum is set by Scrap Exchange. Larger loads usually get more offers.
What can't I sell?
Stolen property, gas cylinders that are not empty and certified, explosives, medical and radioactive waste, and anything illegal to sell in Pakistan. See prohibited items.

Pickup, weighing and payment

Who comes to collect the scrap?
The buyer comes to you at the time you agree. On the day you can follow them on the map.
How do I know the weight is right?
Weigh together on a proper scale. The buyer records the weight with photos of the scale, and you confirm the final weight and price before the deal is done.
How do I get paid?
The buyer pays you directly, in cash, by JazzCash, by Easypaisa or by bank transfer. Check your balance in the official app before you confirm; never trust an SMS or a screenshot.
What if something goes wrong after the deal?
Open a dispute from the deal's receipt within 7 days. Our team reviews the evidence from both sides. See disputes.

Buying

Can kabarias and dealers join?
Yes, for free. Browse scrap near you, make offers, bid in auctions and plan pickups. See for kabarias and dealers.
How do auctions work?
The seller sets a starting price and an end time. Buyers bid per kg and everyone sees new bids live. A bid in the last minutes extends the clock. The highest bid wins and becomes an accepted offer.

Account, app and privacy

Which phones are supported?
Android 7.0 or newer for the app. On iPhone or a computer, use the web app in your browser. Get the app.
Why do I need a code to sign in?
A new phone or browser needs a 6-digit code sent by SMS or email, so nobody else can open your account with just your password.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Request it from Settings, Privacy in the app or on the web. You can also download your data there. See deleting your account and data.
Where can I get help?
The help documentation has step-by-step guides. You can also send feedback from the app or contact us.
