Disputes and refunds
Last updated 16 October 2026
Scrap Exchange is a marketplace. We don't take payments or hold money: buyers pay sellers directly at the pickup. This page explains what you can do when a deal goes wrong.
Fees and refunds from Scrap Exchange
Using Scrap Exchange is free. Because we charge no fees and handle no payments, there is nothing for us to refund. Any refund of money paid for scrap is between the buyer and the seller.
Before you confirm a deal
Most problems can be avoided at the pickup. Weigh together, check the final weight and price the buyer sends you, and confirm only when you have been paid. If something is wrong, don't confirm: talk it through in the chat, or cancel the pickup.
Opening a dispute
If something went wrong with a completed deal, such as the weight didn't match, you weren't paid, or the scrap was not as described, open a dispute from the deal's receipt within 7 days.
- Choose the reason and describe what happened.
- Add evidence: photos, the scale reading, payment records.
- The other side can add their evidence too.
What our team does
Our team reviews the evidence from both sides and records an outcome: in favour of one side, or settled by agreement. Outcomes affect ratings and badges, and repeated or serious problems can lead to an account being suspended. We can't move money between members or force a payment; for fraud or theft, contact the police.
